Internationally Educated Nurses - IENs
These are challenging times in healthcare in Canada
today with an aging population and a declining nursing
workforce which has led to a nursing shortage at critical
levels. Statistics show that nurses in Canada work
a quarter of a million overtime hours each week, the
equivalent of 7,000 full-time jobs per year. If we
continue these trends, Canada will be facing a nursing
shortage of almost 80,000 nurses by the year 2011.
The Internationally Educated Nurse can play an integral
role in providing health care services in Canada.
However statistics also show that over 40% of IENs
who begin the application process never successfully
complete it.
Indo-Can International Consultancy
has developed a quality effective process for the
successful recruitment and transition of IENs to nursing
and living in Canada.
We work directly with you, the employer, to provide
the services necessary for successful integration
of Internationally Educated Nurses to your organization.
Our commitment to this comprehensive
recruitment process is outlined below.
Commitmentto Services
The following is an outline of the services we are committed to providing in order to maximize the successful recruitment and integration of IENs.
We are committed to the ethical recruitment of IENs in a timely manner.
Part 1 – Prior to arrival in Canada
- The process begins with an inquiry from an Internationally Educated Nurse (IEN).
- Indo-Can sends the applicant (via e-mail) a templated resume and skills checklist to complete.
- Indo-Can is committed to providing the applicant with all the necessary information and required documentation in a timely way, including the process for submitting the required documents directly to the provincial nursing regulatory body.
- Applicants are interviewed by Indo-Can Nursing Officers and complete a Post Interview Assessment as well as a test consisting of 20 general medical questions.
- A nursing recruitment profile is developed for each applicant and presented to various potential employers.
- Employers select the applicants that they would like to interview. Interview options include: personal interview at the location of the IEN(s) or a telephone interview.
- Indo-Can will make the arrangements for the interviews to take place according to employers’ schedules.
- Should the employer choose a personal interview, the interview will take place where the nurse is located. Indo-Can will cover all expenses including the airfare from Toronto, hotel accommodation, food, and ground transportation while out of Canada.
- When the employer has issued an offer of employment for the selected nurses, the visa/immigration process begins.
- The employer is responsible for the cost of a one-way ticket for each applicant selected.
- Indo-Can International Consultancy Inc. commits to cover the cost of the visa/immigration documentation for each applicant. This process will be completed in approximately 6 to 8 weeks.
- An Indo-Can Nursing Officer will work specifically with the employer to identify the education/training needs of the applicant to successfully practice as a nurse in their facility. Indo-Can offers a 10-day education / training program for each applicant(s) which will be provided to them either before they arrive in Canada or upon arrival to Canada. Accommodation and costs during this period will be the responsibility of Indo-Can.
Part 2 – Following arrival in Canada
Indo-Can International Consultancy Inc. guarantees that:
- We will meet each applicant at the airport and take him/her to their destination.
- We will provide the applicant with one (1) month temporary furnished accommodation and a one week supply of groceries.
- We will assist the applicant with relocation services including:
- Opening a bank account
- Obtaining a Driver’s Licence
- Application for Health Card, Health Insurance, and Social Insurance Number
- Assistance in finding long-term accommodation
- Each IEN offered employment will sign a contract with the employer for a term of three (3) years.
- Should the applicant leave her/his place of employment prior to the end of their contract or is terminated by the employer, Indo-Can International Consultancy will replace this nurse with an equally qualified IEN at no cost or obligation to the employer to complete the term of the original contract.
- We will provide on-going support to both the applicant and the employer for a period of three (3) months following the arrival of the nurse to the respective facility.
- An Indo-Can Nursing Officer will conduct a monthly visit to the place of employment during the initial three (3) month transition period. Telephone interviews with the applicant and the employer will be conducted on a weekly basis. Following these first three months, Indo-Can will complete a post interview assessment with the nurse and the employer.
» International Medical Graduates – IMG
The shortage of physicians in Canada is one of the
most significant challenges facing our healthcare
system today. Thousands of Canadians are at risk of
not having timely access to physician services. We
need to not only increase the number of physicians
in Canada, but also to improve patient access to physician
services irrespective of geography and location.
The College of Physicians and Surgeons in each province
regulates eligibility for licensure to practice for
physicians. The requirements and processes for registration
vary slightly between the provinces.
Indo-Can International Consultancy
is committed to providing the International Medical
Graduate with all the necessary information
and documentation required for registration to practice
medicine in Canada. We are aware of the various provincial
requirements and their processes to obtain eligibility
for clinical assessment in a recognized Canadian Physician
Assessment Program. We will develop a physician profile
for those IMGs who have met eligibility requirements
for a specific province/territory and provide this
profile to the various employers for their consideration.
We will present our commitment of services which align
closely with those presented above for Internationally
Educated Nurses, to you, the employer at your request.
